Stroller Buckle

Holmbergs Childsafety AB is one of the world’s leading suppliers of buckles, harnesses and connectors to child seat manufacturers worldwide. Meanwhile, there have been significant market growths of stroller restraint systems during the last few years. Therefore, a new buckle for stroller restraints will be developed for Holmbergs Childsafety AB.

The goal of this project is, to study how users operate buckles, to analyze different type of buckles, and to design a stroller buckle that fulfills the requirements in terms of technical specification,
safety, design, ergonomic and cost. The investigation was completed through interviews, observations, literature studies and store visiting around stroller restraints.
Users, buckles and operation analysis were studied in the development phase. A specification of requirement was listed according to these studies.

In the design phase, two development approaches were used to find different solutions. After discussing with the development group of Holmbergs Childsafety AB and a decision analysis against requirement specification,
two concepts, OHO buckle and ROTO were selected for further refinement. Two prototypes were created and evaluated against the specifications of requirement as well.
OHO and ROTO diverse widely with each other in terms of price level and functionality. They fulfill most of the requirements but have their strongest point in different areas.
